FLORATAM FACTS


University of South Florida and Texas A&M released Floratam in 1973. Floratam turf has the following advantages.

Cold- Hardy: 
Floratam’s cold hardiness is an advantage to the consumer in the Central parts of Florida .

Sun tolerant: Floratam loves direct sunlight and tolerate particle shady (less then 20%). Deep shade areas need to be avoided.

Attractive: Floratam creates a thick, lush carpet of St. Augustine grass. Its is easily distinguishable from most varieties by its reddish, stolon color.

Virus Resistance: Floratam is S.A.D resistant and shows good leaf disease resistance due to its open, long internodes and coarse growth habit.

Salt tolerance: Floratam has a small considerable salt tolerance for shoreline plantings.

EMPIRE ZOYSIA FACTS

Developed in Brazil for hot, humid situations it's main claim to fame is drought tolerant than most varieties of zoysia grass (once established) . 
When dried out, it goes dormant (Turning Brown)
Turf is as hardy, and has a deep, thick root structure. 
In addition, slower vertical growth, plus natural chinch bug and chemical resistances, mean your lawn will require less maintenance, mowing and water than with other types of warm season grass.
 
In some instances, once naturalized to the local climate, EMPIRE Zoysia requires minimal irrigation
(once established)
Empire is used wide spread in Austalia with good results

Sun tolerant: Bitter Blue loves direct sunlight and tolerate particle shade, areas greater then 60% shade should be voided.

Attractive: Bitter Blue creates a thick, lush carpet of St. Augustine grass. Its is easily distinguishable from most varieties by its bluest green stolon color.

Virus Resistance: Bitter Blue is S.A.D resistant and shows good leaf disease resistance due to its open, long internodes and coarse growth habit.

Bahia is poor in cold weather. Will go into a dormant time during the cooler months. Bahia advantage to the consumer in the Southern parts of Florida .

Sun tolerant:  Bahia thrives in direct sun and moderate shade. Heavy shade areas should be avoided.

Attractive:  Bahia is a single leaf and roots, forming a solid ground feel. It’s easily distinguishable from the other turf due to its light green, tall stolon color.

Virus Resistance:  Bahia is S.A.D resistant and shows good leaf disease resistance.

Salt tolerance:  Bahia is poor salt tolerance areas and is not recommended for shoreline plantings.
