A healthy soil, a happy life

Sod care refers to the care and maintenance of soil organic dirt. This involves the proper management of the soil to maintain or increase the level of organic matter in the soil, which is crucial for soil health, fertility, and plant growth. Sod care may include practices such as adding organic matter, reducing tillage, and using cover crops to promote the growth of soil microorganisms and build up soil organic matter.

FLORATAM FACTS

The University of South Florida and Texas A&M released Floratam in 1973. Floratam turf has the following advantages:

Cold-Hardiness: Floratam’s cold hardiness is an advantage to the consumer in the Central parts of Florida.

Sun Tolerance: Floratam loves direct sunlight and tolerates particle shady (less than 20%). Deep shade areas need to be avoided.

Attractiveness: Floratam creates a thick, lush carpet of St. Augustine grass. It is easily distinguishable from most varieties by its reddish, stolon color.

Virus Resistance: Floratam is S.A.D resistant and shows good leaf disease resistance due to its open, long internodes and coarse growth habit.

Salt Tolerance: Floratam has a small considerable salt tolerance for shoreline plantings.

Establishment Rate Fast
Mowing Days 6 to 10 Days
Mowing Heights 2” – 3½”
Fertilization 4 to 6 yearly

EMPIRE ZOYSIA FACTS

Developed in Brazil for hot, humid situations, its main claim to fame is drought tolerant than most varieties of zoysia grass (once established). When dried out, it goes dormant (turning brown). Turf is as hardy and has a deep, thick root structure. In addition, slower vertical growth, plus natural chinch bug and chemical resistances, mean your lawn will require less maintenance, mowing, and water than with other types of warm-season grass.

In some instances, once naturalized to the local climate, Empire Zoysia requires minimal irrigation (once established). Empire is used widely in Australia with good results.

Cold -Hardy: Empire Zoysia thrives in demanding tropical climates and also exhibits excellent cold hardiness. It will retain fall color longer than many other turf selections and green up more quickly in the spring. It will go into a dormant time during the cooler months.

Sun Tolerance: Excellent

Attractiveness: Combines soft-to-the-touch feel with lush green color and fine tight blade growth

Virus Resistance: Excellent

Salt Tolerance: Excellent. Empire Zoysia thrives near coastal areas.

Leaf Texture Wide, soft, more open than most Zoysias
Drought Tolerance Excellent once established
Wearability Durable
Soil Type Wide Range
Establishment Rate Fast
Mowing Days 6 to 10 Days
